I have been quite worried lately that we will fail on healthcare reform just like in 1993-1994 and will not get another chance at it for another 20 years. People are expecting healthcare reform and if Democrats fail to deliver, they are in for a world of hurt in 2010. Hopefully Obama and Emanuel are telling all of the weak kneed Democratic Senators the consequences of not getting a healthcare reform bill passed with a strong public option this year. Democrats will have NOTHING to run on in 2010 if they dont pass a strong reform this year.
I saw what happened in 1993-1994. People were strongly hopeful that the Democratic President and Congress would pass a strong healthcare reform plan. When Democrats failed to deliver, Democratic voters stayed home on election day in 1994 and the Democratic party was simply wiped out at every level of government from Senator all the way down to county clerk. Democrats CAN NOT have another repeat of this and the best way to avoid this is to pass health reform with a public option.
There is no "we will do it tommorrow" on healthcare reform. This is the only chance we will get for a long, long time to pass a real healthcare reform. If healthcare reform fails this year, it is dead for another 20 years. This is the reason why we need to keep pressuring every Democratic senator to support a public option. We cannot let this opportunity slip away yet again.
