Whoever had the idea to bring the cap and trade bill to a vote in the House before healthcare ought to be sued for political/legislative malpractice. This was an unpopular bill that would have given almost nobody any benefit and something that few people care about in an economy like this and probably wont even get through the Senate. Its passage helped sink Obama's approval ratings and the general direction of the country and Republicans attacked it as "Cap and Tax" and a "Job Killer". Vulnerable Democrats went home and got an earfull from angry constituants and are now scared about voting on healthcare reform.
The reason many Democrats are so scared about the healthcare bill is because of the reaction they recieved when they voted for cap and trade. If they had voted on healthcare, it would be a hell of a lot harder to attack them on attempting to give coverage to many uninsured Americans. Democrats in a sense, wasted capital on a bill that isnt very popular and will do little to improve people's economic situations.
I believe that if Democrats had voted on healthcare instead of cap and trade a few weeks back, we would not be in the situation that we are in today. Democrats are smart to now be putting off cap and trade until healthcare is done, but it is something that should have been put off in the first place until healthcare is done. It is almost as bad as Clinton pushing through NAFTA when he could have done healthcare instead.
