I finally agree that it is time for New Jersey Governor John Corzine to drop out of the 2009 governor's race. Corzine is a good man, but his governorship has been an absolute disaster. He has to deal with a bad economy and several other setbacks. He trails Republican US Attorney Chris Christie by an average of 11 points and there is no sense that he can turn things around in the next four months. http://www.pollster.com/...
Christie is currently winning because he is not Corzine. He hasnt offered voters anything but vague platitudes and has been completely unable to explain how he will be able to cut taxes and what he will cut spending on. None of that matters now because Corzine is so unpopular. Democrats need to replace Corzine with another candidate who would likely beat Christie, such as former Senator Bill Bradley or Congressman Frank Pallone.
Another concern about having Corzine on the ballot could be the loss of the state Assembly to Republicans. Democrats currently have a 48-32 lead there, but each seat elects two members, so Republicans need to pick up just five seats for a majority. This could happen if Christie wins this race by double digits and sweeps in a bunch of Republicans to local offices on his coattails. For the good of New Jersey and the Democrats, Corzine should be replaced.
